Vision services

What Are Vision Services?
Vision services help students with visual impairments access learning and participate fully in school. These supports are provided by a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) and may include specialized instruction, materials, and technology.

What Do Vision Services Provide?

  • Assessment: The TSVI evaluates how your child’s vision affects learning and daily school activities.
  • Individualized Support: Strategies and accommodations are added to your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Specialized Instruction: Skills such as:
    • Using large print or braille
    • Orientation and mobility (moving safely in school)
    • Assistive technology for reading and writing
  • Accessible Materials: Books and resources in formats your child can use (large print, braille, audio).
  • Collaboration: The TSVI works with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure your child’s needs are met.
