Occupational Therapy

Who we are:

The Occupational Therapy team consists of occupational therapists working in the school district.  Physiotherapy is also available through contract services.

What we do:

Your occupational therapist (OT) may provide screening, assessment, intervention and/or consultation to support participation in daily school activities. This includes a range of fine motor, gross motor and self-care tasks such as drawing and printing, focusing in class, participating in gym, getting dressed for outdoor time.

When to consider a referral:

You can discuss a referral to the occupational therapy team if you have concerns about your child’s:

o   fine motor skills such as drawing and printing

o   self-care skills such as putting outdoor clothes on, toileting

o   self-regulation skills such as calming body to focus in class

o   equipment needs such as classroom seating or using a wheelchair

o   getting around the school (accessibility)

How to refer:

Please check with your teacher or school case manager to discuss a referral

What to expect:

Service delivery may vary depending on your child’s needs and school resources.

Occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy may include consultation/collaboration with the school team, direct individual or small-group therapy as needed.
